Abstract

335,293. Hailwood, E. A. July 4, 1929. Lighting burners by electric devices.-A device for lighting miners' safety lamps underground comprises a current-carrying metal rod R formed at one end with a lamp contact R<1> which is pressed up by a spring S. The rod R is fitted in a central aperture in an insulating member G which is preferably of glass, the contact R<1> fitting in a recessed hole G<2> in the head G<1> of the member G. To limit upward movement of the rod R, a split ring P passes through the lower end of the rod and engages the sides of a gap G<3> in the insulator G. Nuts N provided on the rod R for receiving a lead from an induction coil, or contacts are provided to close an electrical circuit on depression of the rod by a lamp fitted on the contact R<1>. Arms C' of a spring clip C grip recesses G<4> in the insulator, springs C<2> on the clip C engaging the wall T on which the lamp seating D rests. Specification 1979/08 isreferred to.
