Be it known that I, J EAN BAPTISTE Bois- SELOT, a citizen of France, :residing at No. 402
East One Hundred and Sixteenth street, New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ignition-Plugs for Explosive-Motors, of which the following is a speciiication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates generally to explosive-motors using any of the well-known hydrocarbons and in which the explosive mixture is ignited by an electric spark and adapted for use in stationary and other motors and automobiles.
It more particularly relates to the sparking or ignition plug, providing a holder for the plug that is guarded against leakage by shocks or blows and which is'constructed for ready assembling and dismantling.
A practical embodiment of the improvements is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a sectional elevation thereof with a portion of the motor-cylinder to which it is connected. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a modiiication detached from the motor-cylinder. Fig. 3 is a plan view ofthe ignition-plug, and Fig. 4 is a central vertical section of the plug as shown in Fig. l.
The motor with which the improved ignition-plug N is used may be of any suitable form-such, for instance, as that illustrated and described in my pending application, Serial No. 32,693, filed October 11, 1900, of which this is a division, the motor being represented therein by a portion of the water-jacketed motor-cylinder B.
The ignition-plug consists of a cup-shaped base 24, screwed into the motor-cylinder B and carrying one of the sparking terminals 1 in circuit with the motor-framework. It carries a porcelain rod 2, secured in position by a nut 3 and through which the other spark- 45 ing terminal passes from a metallic piece 4, which in turn isborne upon by the head of the binding-post 5, thatk is mounted loosely in the insulated head 6 of the plug. The cupshaped base 24 carries a sleeve 7, threaded thereto, and the sleeve carries the head 6, between which and the binding-post head a suitable spring 8 isv interposed. The sleeve 7 may shown the parts of the ignition-plug are thus readily taken apart, while the independence of the insulating-rod 2 to the binding-post 5 and the manner of supporting said rod 2 prevent the accidental rupture of the latter.
The binding-post 5 will be in circuit with any proper form of sparking regulator or circuit-breaker, such as that shown in my said pending application.
What I herein claim isl. In a motor, an igniting-plug provided with an insulated terminal holder and ayieldingly-mounted binding-post in contact with the terminal of said holder, as described.
2. In a motor, an ignition-plug provided with an insulated terminal holder, a yieldingly-mounted binding-post in contact with the terminal of said holder, and a surrounding sleeve, as described.
3. In a motor, an ignition-plug provided with a base, an insulated terminal holder mounted in said base, a removable sleeve carried by said base, an insulated head carried by the sleeve and a yielding binding-post mounted in said head, as described.
