Abstract

Moulding wheel tyres; moulds.-A tread-forming band for use in apparatus for retreading tyres of the kind in which unvulcanized rubber compound is placed in a mastic state upon the crown of the tyre arms and is united thereto by heated segmental shaped moulds, the tread pattern being simultaneously formed, is made to encircle completely,the tyres, and is composed of a split ring 3 of thin flexible metal of arcuate cross-section with tread-forming projections 10 moulded thereon or secured thereto, and with its ends 13 separably connected by an extension piece 12, so that, by using extension pieces differing somewhat in length, the same band may be used for tyres of slightly different circumferences. The inner surface of the extension piece 12 is formed with tread-forming projections corresponding as far as possible with those on the band 3. The tyre 4 to be treated is supported with the band 3 and packing pieces 25 between a hollow chest 1, to which a heating medium may be conveyed, and a compression member or core 5 which, by means of the spring 6 and bolts 7, presses the tyre against the mould and tread-former.
