Abstract

309,302. Smith, J. A. Spencer-. April 2, 1928. Vulcanizing tyres vulcanizing-presses.-A nest of moulds consisting of recessed rings 1 with interposed tread and bead rings 2, 3 located between a base ring 6 and a crown ring 7 is provided with fluidpressure means such as a flexible bag 24 for pressing the assembled moulds together. The bag 24 is accommodated in a recess in the base ring 6 and acts on a member 26 sliding in the recess and contacting with the lowest mould ring. Adjustable stops 30 on the base ring determine the normal position of the member 26. A steam jacket surrounding the nest is formed by a casing 8 bolted to the ring 6 and attached to the crown ring 7 in bayonet fashion, with locking projections 21 engaging lugs 20. The bag 24 may be replaced bv an inverted U-shaped member. In a modification for small tyres, the crown ring is clamped to the base ring by swing bolts on the latter engaging bifurcations on the former. Heating fluid is supplied to the interior of the moulds from a common central supply pipe through branches of flexible copper tubing. Specification 268,107 is referred to.
