Abstract

177,006. St. Helens Cable & Rubber Co., Ltd., and Gray, F. J. S. Feb. 15, 1921. Moulding wheel tyres.-Solid band tyres are manufactured in moulds in which the material is compressed laterally and radially inwards simultaneously. The mould comprises an annular flanged ring 1 to support the rubber material, side rings 4, 5, and an outer tread ring 6 formed of a number of separate sections. The latter have wedge-shaped flanges 7 which co-operate with grooves 8 in the side rings, so that on pressing these rings inwards the tread ring 6 is forced radially inwards. The Provisional Specification states that engagement of the side rings by the tread sections may be effected by pin-and-slot connections.
