Abstract
165,459. Swinehart, J. A. Aug. 9, 1918. Moulding wheel tyres.-To prevent puckering &c., tyre covers are formed in sectional moulds adapted to fold towards each other from the tread towards the base. The moulds may comprise annular sections 20, 21, Fig. 3, which diverge inwardly so that on being forced together they engage first at the tread portion, and upon applying pressure the inner portions 24 are gradually brought together. The moulds may be formed of spring metal or of cast metal rendered flexible by annular grooves 26 and radial grooves 28. To equalize the movements of the mould sections and core 25, the sections are interconnected by links 28<1> pivoted on pins 29 on the core. The mould sections are formed with sloping surfaces 22 diverging inwardly and a number of moulds are superposed and forced together in a vulcanizing-press.
