Metallic-spring bodies and cores; non-metallic elastic bodies and cores.-A structure for use as a tyre or as a core within a cover comprises a number of segments 1, Fig. 1, of rubber or analogous material arranged in breakjoint order and connected by metallic springs 2, passing through holes 4 in the segments, Fig. 2. The segments may interlock by tongues 5 and grooves 6, and those at the base of the tyre may have rim-engaging heads. The outer segments may be formed with various forms of tread surface, or may be recessed for the accommodation of a. tread band. The segments adjacent the tread and those at the base of the tyre may have projections which come into contact when the tyre is distorted beyond a limit. Fig. 9 shows an alternative construction in which the segments 1 have grooves 31 in their adjacent surfaces, and in which metallic rings 25. 26 are provided in the interior of the tyre. The ring 25 may be jointed at intervals to the spring 2. Bolts 27 hold the ring 26 to the rim 28, and coiled springs may be provided between the rings 25, 26. Metallic wedges 24 may be inserted between adjacent segments to prevent skidding. Metallic rings 29 may be provided at each side of the tyre and may be joined by transverse rods.
