Abstract

293,119. Barnes, J. r., Barnes, W. T., and Kennedy, M. D. March 31, 1927. Moulding wheel tyres.-A mould for retreading and vulcanizing tyre covers comprises laterally separable hollow mould sections of similar curvature, one section being furnished with a hollow lateral extension to overlap and accommodate the other section, lugs being provided on both sections and furnished with holes beyond the lateral extension to receive securing-bolts. As shown, a mould section 5 provided with a heating cavity 7 telescopes into a second section 4 having a heating cavity 6 and provided with a lateral extension embracing the section 5. An interchangeable tread ring 27 is supported within the mould. Bolts 26 passing through lugs on the sections draw them together against the ring 27. The sections are formed with divergent faces 15 and the cover 29 is supported by an air or sand cover 31 which is forced outwardly by screws 33 passing through brackets 34 secured to, or embracing the sections. The mould may be circular or segmental.
