Abstract

759,390. Moulds for tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Dec. 17, 1953], No. 35115/53. Class 87(2) Tyre cover moulding or remoulding apparatus is adaptable to different sizes of covers by the use of a pair of complementary annular side plates 1 which mould the bead, side-wall and shoulder portions of a cover and which co-operate with a tread ring 7. A spacer 5 fixes the distance between the side plates for the required width of tyre cover and a tread ring 7 of appropriate width is selected. The inclined moulding surfaces lc allow larger diameter tread rings 7 to co-operate with them, Fig. 4. Fig. 4 also shows an alternative method of adjusting the width, one side plate having a spigot 1d which fits inside the other side plate and which for very wide covers, may be provided with an extension 10. Curing heat is applied through steam piping 2, 2a. Each side plate may comprise separable circumferentially outer and inner sections to enable covers of various head sizes to be moulded by using different inner sections with the same outer section.
