Abstract

843,433. Moulds for tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 28, 1957 [June 15, 1956], No.18508/56. Class 87(2). A tyre mould, especially for retreads, has a heatable tread ring comprising at least one part for moulding a pattern on the tread and shoulder portions of the tyre ; each part extending the whole of the axial width of the tread ring at any transverse cross-section, and being associated in the mould with heated adjustable plates for contacting the flat mid-wall regions of the tyre and with means for supporting the tyre beads a tread ring 1 comprises a metal band 2, heated by coils 3, and segments 4 having flanges 4a, 4b for moulding the shoulders 13 of tyre 14. Top and bottom plates 5 and 6, heated by coils 7, 8, contact the tyre side walls and are located in a screw press Fig. 2 (not shown). The tyre beads are supported during inflation and curing on a rim 15, and in other modifications the beads are supported by annuli which are forced against the plates or may alternatively be formed integrally with them.
