Abstract

332,834. Telefunken Ges. fiir Drahtlose Telegraphie. Oct. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Thermionic homodyne receivers.-An auxiliary frequency, such as is used for example to effect automatic gain control, is made to serve the further purpose of synchronizing the frequency of a local oscillator employed at the receiving end to re-introduce a suppressed carrier wave. The homodyne generator 3 is coupled to the receiving amplifier and rectifier 2. The auxiliary frequency is accepted by a filter 5 and is fed to two amplifiers 8, 9 in push-pull through a transformer 6, and simultaneously in parallel through a transformer 7. The circuit 6, 10 is tuned to the auxiliary transmitted frequency, so that if the local frequency supplied by the generator 3 is the same as that transmitted, the voltages applied to the grids of the valves 8, 9 by the transformers 6, 7 will be 90‹ out of phase, the plate currents from both valves will be equal, and a relay 11 remains unaffected. If the two frequencies are different, however, the relay 11 is operated to place a positive or negative bias on the grid of a valve 12, which, in turn, detunes the circuits of the generator 3 until exact synchronism is attained.
