Vehicle and like lamps.-A vehicle or like lamp comprises a Fresnel or other lens 10 having top and bottom parts 10<1>, 10<2> adapted respectively to produce a parallel beam F<1> and a slightly downwardly diverging beam F<2>, and a lower crown 15 adapted to produce a diverging beam F<4>. The bottom part 10<2> may be formed with laterally disposed vertical prisms 11 for producing a diverging beam, F<3>. The crown 15 is partly or completely annular and it may be of spherical, cylindrical, or conical shape, or a combination of such shapes. It may be stepped or it may comprise a series of elementary lenses 15<1> of biconvex, concavo-convex, or plano-convex transverse section, made separately or formed integrally by fusion, moulding, or stamping. The lens 10 and crown 15 may be secured by a ring 13 in a frame 12 which is secured by a ring 16 to a lamp casing 17 containing an electric lamp bulb 20 carried by a fork 21. A parabolic or other concave reflector may be arranged behind the bulb 20 to reflect rearwardly directed rays on to the lens 10 and crown 15, and rays directed forwardly and upwardly may be re-directed on to the crown 15 by means of an annular reflector. The lamp may be fitted with a coloured glass 30 to produce a rearwardly directed beam F<5>, and with a glass 31 to produce an upwardly directed beam F<6>. The lamp is particularly adapted for use on aircraft, in which case it may be so arranged that none of the beams of light is intercepted by the propeller, or two such lamps may be arranged back to back to illuminate a station.
