Abstract

375,943. Lamps for illuminating operating tables. CROS, R. L., 12, Rue Chartran, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. May 14, 1931, No. 14346. Convention date, May 17, 1930. [Class 75 (iv).] In a lamp for illuminating operating tables comprising a light source at the focus of an optical system for producing a beam of parallel rays which are dispersed and then concentrated on the operating field, the light source is placed at a considerable distance above the diverging reflector which is arranged adjacent the lower end of a tube through which the parallel beam is adapted to pass. In the form shown in Fig. 1, an electric lamp bulb 2 is associated with a parabolic reflector or a spherical reflector 4 and a lens 5 at the upper end of a tube 3, the parallel rays being directed outwardly by a reflector 6 on to a concentrating reflector 7. The tube 3 may be formed with cooling flanges 31, it may be surrounded by a liquid jacket or by an open-ended tube 9 for promoting air circulation, and it mav contain a parallel-sided water vessel or a plate 10 of heat-absorbing glass. The light source may comprise several bulbs, some being supplied from the mains and others from an accumulator, the latter bulbs being automatically brought into position upon failure of the mains supply. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the bulb 2 is placed at the common upper focus F<1> of two ellipsoidal reflectors 11, 12 of different curvature, the common lower focus F<2> coinciding with the focus of a converging lens 5, the parallel rays being directed outwardly by annular prisms 6<1> surrounded by a cylindrical heat-absorbing glass 10<1>. The reflectors 11, 12 are housed within a cylindrical part 14 having ventilation openings 15, 16 and a lateral opening 17 to give access to the bulb.
