331,850. Mascart, G. M. F. F. April 8, 1929. Coking processes.-Non-bituminous and anthracitic coals containing not more than 14 per cent of volatiles and agglomerated with not more than 7 per cent of pitch are subjected to a progressive carbonization for 9 to 10¢ hours, the temperature rising from about 500‹ C. to 900-930‹ C. An externally heated retort is employed and steam may be injected. Gas freed from its bye-products may be circulated upwardly therethrough to generate hydrogen at the expense of the methane present.
