Abstract

Disc-supported-blade fans and pumps; impeller blades.-A centrifugal pump, blower or exhauster has one or more impeller vanes 6 supported at either or both ends by a shroud 7. The vanes 6 present similar surfaces to the material to be pumped irrespective of the direction of rotation; they are preferably heart-shaped as shown in Fig. 3. Vanes 13 are secured to the outside of the shrouds 7 to prevent material from accumulating between the shrouds and the casing 8. The number of vanes 13 exceeds that of the vanes 6 by one. In a modification the impeller vanes extend through the shroud to form the auxiliary vanes. In another modification one hollow impeller vane of heart-shaped section is provided and the balance of the impeller is maintained by a crescent-shaped .guide vane.
