Abstract

329,056. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., and Brightman, R. Feb. 25, 1929. Disazo dyes. - Disazo dyuestuffs suitable for dying regenerated cellulose rayon in even shades are made by tetraotizing a diaminodiphenyl free from acid groups e.g. phenolic, nitro, sulphonic or carboxylic in which either no, or not more than one amino group occupies a p-position with respect to the diphenyl linkage and coupling with two molecular proportions of coupling components at least one of which is an aminonaphtholsulphonic acid or an N-substituted derivative thereof. In examples the following dyestuffs are described which dye viscose brown shades, (1) 3 : 3<1>-diaminodiphenyl # salicylic acid and 2 : 8 : 6-acid. (2) 2: 4'-diaminodiphenyl # salicylic acid and N-phenyl-2: 8: 6-acid. Dyestuffs from the following additional components are tabulated : 2: 21-diaminodiphenyl, 2: 2<1>- diamino-5: 4'-ditolyl, 5: 5'-diamino-2: 2<1>-ditolyl, 1: 8-aminonaphthol-2: 4-disulphonic acid, #- naphthol, o-cresotinic acid, 1 : 5-aminonaphthol-7- sulphonic acid, 2-m-ethlylaminonaphthalene-7-sulphonic acid, N-benzoyl-J-acid, N-benzoyl-2 : 8: 6- acid, 1: 4-, 2: 7- and 1: 5-naphtholsulphonic acids, 2:8: 6-acid, 1 : 8-aminonaphthol-4-sulphonic acid and N-phenyl-J-acid. Specifications 294,922 and 296,485 are referred to. 5: 5<1>-Diamono-2 : 2<1>-ditolyl is made by reducing the corresponding dinitro body.
