Abstract

1 - Amino - 3 - glycollylaminobenzene is prepared by treating 1-nitro-3-chloroacetyl-aminobenzene with an alkaline agent to replace the chlorine atom by a hydroxy group, or by heating m-nitraniline with polyglycollide in the presence of a small quantity of concentrated sulphuric acid, and in either case subsequently reducing the nitro group to an amino group.ALSO:The invention comprises disazo dyestuffs of the general formula: <FORM:0713217/IV(c)/1> (wherein R represents a radical of the benzene or naphthalene series containing at least one water-solubilizing group e.g. a sulphonic or carboxylic acid group), and the manufacture thereof by coupling a diazo compound of the benzene or naphthalene series, containing one or more water-solubilizing groups, with 1-amino-3-glycollylaminobenzene, and converting the resulting aminomonoazo dyestuff into the corresponding urea, e.g. by condensation with phosgene. The products dye cotton and regenerated cellulose fibres in dischargeable yellow tints. In examples the following diazo components are employed: (1) 2-aminonaphthalene-4 : 8-disulphonic acid; (2) and (3) 4-chloro- and 4-methyl-aniline-3-sulphonic acid.
