Abstract
328,827. Vorel, F. May 27, 1929. Valves.-In a multicylinder engine, disc valves 14 adjacent the cylinders are constructed so that each controls the inlet and exhaust of two or more cylinders. In the arrangement shown, each valve works in connection with a pair of cylinders and is formed with two arcuate passages 22, 23 the ends of which communicate with ports 24, of which those pertaining to the passage 22 open at one side of the valve, to serve one of the cylinders, and those of the passage 23 at the other side of the valve to serve the adjacent cylinder. As the valve rotates, these passages co-operate with inclined inlet passages 25, exhaust passages 26, and cylinder passages 27 formed in stationary bearing-blocks 21 arranged at each side of the valve around the valve shaft 15. Spring-pressed annular washers 36 are fitted in the ends of the passages 25, 26, 27 adjacent the valve faces. In a modification, the inclined passages are replaced by L-shaped passages. Valve gear.-Each valve disc is formed with a shaft 15 extending from each side, and the ends of these shaft sections are detachably connected by tongue-and-groove couplings.
