Engine,s with main shaft parallel to axis of cylinder; revolving-cylinder engines; radial cylinder engines.-In a rotary internal-combustion or steam engine which comprises a rotary drum B containing cylinders D in which reciprocate pistons H and having ports in the cylinder heads or sides which register periodically with ports in a fixed disc F, the reciprocations of the pistons H are controlled by means of a cam groove L in the casing in which run rollers K attached to the pistons H. Packing rings are fitted round the cylinder ports. When steam is used a rotary disc valve with ports in line with those of the drum cylinders may be fitted on the other side of the fixed disc and enclosed in a cover forming a steam chest.
