Abstract
328,435. Uher, E., and Uhertype Akt.- Ges. April 23, 1929. Applied by driving-mechanism disengagers; periodic. - In apparatus for arresting a continuously-rotating clutch-driven member at selected stopping points, the driven member carries a brush adapted to wipe a series of contacts until it reaches a contact the circuit of which has been closed at a keyboard, electromagnets then being energized to (1) disengage the clutch (2) apply a brake to the driven member and (3) effect a fine adjustment. The application of the invention to a photographic type-composing machine as in Specification 331,305, [Class 98 (i), Photographic cameras &c.], is described. The electric motor 10 drives continuously a disc 12 slidably keyed to the sleeve- 13, the end 14 of which frictionally engages and drives the disc 15. The latter is fixed to a casing 9 carrying a mirror 8 adapted to reflect the selected character from the axially adjustable matrix drum 4 to the sensitive surface 3. Means for arresting the rotation of the casing 9 comprises a brush 22 on the disc 15 adapted to wipe a series of fixed contacts 23 of which a selected member, e.g. 23a may be brought into circuit by depressing the corresponding key on the key-board 26. When the brush 22 reaches the contact 23a a circuit is closed through the battery 24, electromagnet 20, electromagnets 32, and the metal of the machine to the brush 22. The electromagnet 20 firstly raises the spring-loaded sleeve 13 disengaging the clutch 14, 15, and secondly arrests the disc 15 by lowering the friction disc 18 against the tension of the leaf spring 21. Immediately thereafter the electromagnets 32 effect a fine adjustment by lowering the spring-loaded sleeve 30 so that the claw couplings 28, 29 engage. The contacts 23 are arranged in two concentric rings, Fig. 3, which are adjustable about their centre point by means of the screws 43 and slots 44.
