Abstract
462,377. Clutches. PENOT, R. E. M. June 5, 1935, No. 16311. Void. Convention date, June 9, 1934. [Class 80 (ii)] Rollers or balls 5 arranged between the cylindrical inner surface of a drum 1, secured to a driving shaft 2, and inclined surfaces 4 of an internal driven member 3 are normally urged to wedging position by springs 6. A disc 7, mounted loosely on the hub of the member 3 and connected thereto by a spring 10, is furnished with pins 9 which engage the rollers, so as to move them from wedging position, when the disc is arrested by a pivoted arm 11 engageable with one or more abutments 8 on the disc. Rebound of the member 3 may be prevented by a pawl, or friction means which tend constantly to rotate the member 3 may be provided. The hub of the member 3 may have a slight clearance on the shaft 2, so as to equalize the load on the rollers. The rollers may alternatively be carried loosely on the pins 9, the springs 6 being then dispensed with, and the driven member may be external to the driving member, in which case the inclined surfaces 4 are formed in the inner surface of the external driven member. The clutch may be used in the apparatus described in Specification 434,021, [Group XL].
