Abstract

327,737. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbeninindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 4, 1928. Divided on 327,671. Right to Patent relinquished. Cellulose esters and ethers, processes for making filaments from; apparatus for making filaments.-Dry-spun artificial threads prepared from cellulose acetates or other carboxylates or from cellulose ethers, and having a tensile strength higher than the normal, are obtained by employing spinning nozzles of glass, quartz glass, or similar vitreous material the length of the bore of which is five or more times the diameter, preferably ten times or more, and by stretching the filaments immediately on extrusion to five or more times their original length. The fining of the filaments is stated to be possible because of the more or less perfect orientation of the cellulosic particles that occurs during the passage of the solution through the elongated nozzles. In examples, solutions of cellulose acetate or ethyl cellulose are spun through glass nozzles having the following length and diameter dimensions :- 1.0 : 0.1 mm., 3.0 : :0.1 mm. and 2.0 : 0.08 mm.; and the filaments are stretched to 5, 10 or 20 times their original length. Specification 198,023 is referred to.
