Abstract

327,474. Parr, G. W. Jan. 14, 1929. Elastic-diaphragm pressure gauges.-An automatic liquid fuel gauge for internal-combustion engines comprises a dip pipe 16 extending to the bottom of the tank 7 and connected with a pump 2, supplying air to overcome the head of pressure in the pipe, and a manometer 6 with an impervious flexible diaphragm 9 displacing indicating fluid in the tube 11. The diaphragm is of corrugated metal and extends across a casing 8. A similar diaphragm 13 is provided in the tube 11 above the indicating fluid. If the tank is under atmospheric pressure, the outer side of the diaphragm 13 is open to the air, but it is connected with the top of the tank if the fuel is under pressure. Air is supplied by a pump comprising a spring-loaded piston connected with the engine induction pipe. '
