Abstract
615,595. Liquid storage tanks. JACK & HEINTZ PRECISION INDUSTRIES, Inc. Sept. 6, 1946, No. 26882. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1945. [Class 69 (i)] [Also in Groups XIII and XVIII] An oil tank and cooling assembly, e.g. for an internal-combustion engine, consists of a main oil reservoir 1 in an outer casing 12 formed with an inlet (not shown) for hot oil which rises through a plurality of oil passages 18 between the walls of the reservoir and casing and overflows into the reservoir at the top edge 19. Furthermore, on either side of the oil passages are alternately disposed passages 22 through which is drawn air for cooling the oil as it is pumped through the oil passages into the reservoir. The oil and air passages 18, 22 are formed by corrugations of a metallic member extending between the walls of the reservoir 1 and the outer casing 12. Baffles 17 are formed in the bottom of the casing so that the hot oil pumped in is restricted in its outward course to the passages 18. The tank is provided with an oil outlet 20, a ball-float oil level gauge (see Group XVIII) and a device including a pressure stabilizing pipe 25, connected to the engine crank-case (not shown) and extending into the reservoir to trap oil vapour, and a reservoir breather pipe 23.
