Hand lamps without lanterns.-The body portion of an electric hand lamp consists of a handle 1, Fig. 1, made of soft rubber or similar elastic and electrically insulating material with a longitudinal bore 2 for the passage of the cable 4. One end of the handle 1 is formed with a tubular extension 3, which may be vulcanized to the cable as at 5, whilst the other end is formed with a larger bore 6, which is threaded at 7 to receive the bulb holder, and with external threads 13 to receive the sleeve-like extremity 12 of a wire guard 11 which presses a protective glass globe 9 against a jointing surface 8 on the handle 1 through the intermediary of an elastic or spring buffer 10. The guard 11 is formed with a hook 14 for hanging up the lamp. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the tubular extension 15 is clamped tightly upon the cable 17 by means of a divided ring 19 or a wire binder or the like. The globe 23 is not flanged and is prevented from lateral displacement by a conical projection 24 on the handle 16. The screwed sleeve 25 of the guard 27 is reinforced by a flange 26 and the handle 16 is provided with a hole 35 whereby the guard can be secured against unauthorized removal by means of lead seals. The buffer 28 is spherical and engages a corresponding depression 29 in the globe 23. The bulb socket 30 may be secured to the handle 16 by means of an insulating and non-combustible threaded ring 31 and its lower part may be protected by a jacket 32 made of fireproof and insulating material and adapted to accommodate the knot 33 in the cable.
