Abstract
325,114. Tews, H. W. Feb. 19, 1929. Fluid-actuated valves. -In a flushing-valve of the type actuated by fluid pressure on the manual operation of a relief valve, the main valve 16 is secured to a spool-shaped member 15 which divides the casing into upper and lower chambers, 21 and 22 respectively. The top portion of the spool member 15 forms a piston 19, on the upper surface of which the water pressure bears to maintain the valve in its closed position, the water passing from the lower to the upper chamber through a bleed port 23. The relief valve 36 is arranged eccentrically to the piston 19 and is carried in the detachable top portion of the casing, the eccentric arrangement enabling a plurality of levers, 41, 43, 47 to be interposed between the push button 48 and valve stem 39. The relief valve is normally retained on its seating by a spring 37 which is housed in a casing 38, the seating being secured by the top edge of the casing 38, whilst the latter projects into the cupped piston so that the spring casing clears the piston as it rises. When the relief valve is opened, the pressure on the top of the piston is released, the water passing from the upper chamber through the passages 28, 29, 30 to the outlet side of the main valve, which is then lifted by the inlet pressure acting on the underside of the piston.
