Abstract

215,592. Groff, A. W. May 29, 1923. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A flushing valve adapted to limit the duration of flow and to control the interval between successive operations of the valve is controlled by an auxiliary valve arranged in a chamber separated from the actuating chamber by a variable opening and adapted to be opened against the pressure to open the main valve. The main valve comprises a ported tubular member 27 provided with a gasket adapted to engage a valve seat 6 and is actuated by fluid pressure acting on a diaphragm 30 clamped between two parts of the casing. Fluid is supplied to the actuating chamber from the main inlet 4 through passages 34, 46 regulated by a slot 48 in a screw 47, protected by a cap 49 and is exhausted from the actuating chamber to open the main valve through passages 36, 25 controlled by a handactuated lift valve 8. This valve is pressed by a spring 18 into engagement with a seat 14 carried by a member 13 secured to a boss 10 bv a cap 12 and is opened by a lever 23 having a curved head 22 adapted to pivot about a lip 21 on the cap 12 and press down a head 17 secured to the valve spindle 19. The diaphragm is backed by a plate 29, adapted when the main valve is opened to lift a second auxiliary valve 44, loosely connected to a thin plate 41, into contact with a seat 39 arranged about the outlet 38 for the actuating fluid and so prevent a second opening of the valve until the control valve has been. closed and sufficient fluid has leaked past the valve 44 to fill the actuating passages. A dirt cover 50 secured by a central screw covers the upper part of the casing.
