Abstract
323,252. Reynolds, D. H. B. Sept. 18, 1928. No Patent granted (Scaling fee not paid). Cup-leather, overlap joints.-In, a pipe joint of the kind described in Specification 149,381, wherein fluidtightness is secured by a packing ring of flexible material comprising a web a, side walls band inturned flanges c, the ring is so formed that when installed within a sheath c in working position the edges of the flanges are maintained in contact with the surface of the pipe ends. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the flanges c are curved as shown, while the web and side walls are preferably reinforced by ribs d; alternatively the flanges may be straight or curved, in which case the ribs of the side walls extend over the. whole width of the flange, Fig. 3. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the edges of the lips are formed with internal protuberances f, with which the web a contacts, and also preferably with external annular beads h. The internal surface of the flanges may be conically arranged, or curved. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 264,095.
