Abstract
323,066. Ridings, W. R. Oct. 12, 1928. Caravans: folding vehicles.-A caravan which may be used as a garage comprises a main central portion and two side portions which are collapsably mounted thereon, the caravan being so mounted on its wheels that. it can be lowered to rest on the ground and having doors at one or both ends which will open to the full width of the central portion. The caravan comprises a central portion 6 having floor 4 and roof 5. Side extensions comprise walls 9, and roof portions 11 and end walls 12 hinged to the side walls. The side walls 9 are connected to hinged portions 10 of the floor 4 while the roof portions 11 are connected to cranked rods 13. The side portions and the floor portions 10 are extended by means of the rods 13, 15 which are rotated by suitable means such as handles 14, 16. The caravan is provided with a cranked axle 18 and a shaft 21 parallel thereto to which shaft the spring suspension 20 is secured. To lower the caravan to the ground the shaft 21 is rotated by worm gearing 22 from the shaft 23 until the wheels 19 are clear of the ground when they are removed and the cranked axle and spring suspension 20 are then turned back to clear the side portions for extending purposes.
