Abstract
503,627. Caravans. GREENING, W. S. Oct. 25, 1937, No. 29119. [Class 108 (i)] A collapsable trailer caravan &c. comprises a box-like chassis mounted on a pair of wheels and a body structure comprising ends and sides made in sections pivoted thereto, and a roof also made in sections and supported by collapsable, pivoted struts inside the vehicle; the roof is erected first and collapsed last. The chassis is supported by collapsable feet 142, Fig. 8, when at rest and the roof sections 46 are connected to the central roof section 45 by links 52. The central roof section is supported by struts 48 having central rule joints surrounded by sliding sleeves 50. The side walls 79, fitted with' windows 80, are pivoted to horizontal sections 85 foldable over sections 98, the sections 85 being supported in their operative positions by pivoted bearers 96 moved to the positions shown by springs 97 and held in their housings by pins 99 which are released when the sides are erected. The roof sections 46 have edges 74 which project beyond the edges of the side walls when erected: The end walls are made in three sections, the middle section being narrower than the middle section of the roof whereby a groove 76, Fig. 7, engages all three sections of the end walls to hold them in alignment. The outer sections of the side walls have flanges which engage the edges of the end walls. The end walls are pivoted to the chasses at 108, 110 respectively which are at different levels whereby the end wells, with their side pieces collapsed, may be folded downwards and lie within the box-like chassis structure. The frame is furnished with cupboards accessible from inside and outside the vehicle.
