Abstract

322,899. Schlick, G. Dec. 14, 1928. Nozzles for producing whirling sprays; nozzles with cut-off devices and regulable orifices.-In a nozzle provided with a plug 11, Figs. 1 and 2, having grooves or openings leading tangentially into a whirl chamber 15 and in which the plug 11 is mounted on a regulating spindle 4 provided with a valve 14 which may bear against a seating 16, a second chamber of greater diameter than the chamber 15 is formed between the plug and valve seating. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the spindle is screwed at 5 passes through a stuffing-box 3, and is provided with a handle 8. The plug 11 may have a needle shaped extension passing through the spray orifice 10. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the needle is omitted and the screw 5 is forward of the valve 14, grooves 22 being provided to allow liquid passing to the ducts 20. A scale may be provided to indicate the degree of atomization. The regulating means vary the character as well as the fineness of the jets. The orifice 10 may be formed in a ceramic or soap stone disc mounted in a housing 2.
