Foundations.-A bituminous surface dressing is applied to a concrete foundation by first preparing an intimate mixture of bitumen with concrete, this mixture being then laid on the foundation, and, after this layer has set, a surface coating of bitumen is applied. In the case of a road foundation, the mixture is preferably applied before the concrete of the foundation has set, and the layer of mixture is then surface treated with an aqueous emulsion of bitumen. The bitumenimpregnated concrete is prepared in a mixer by incorporating the aqueous emulsion of bitumen with a concrete formed of 4 parts of aggregate, 2 parts of sand, and either 1 or 2 parts of rapidhardening cement. Aqueous emulsions of bitumen, such as those described in Specifications 202,021 and 322,792, [both in Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], may be employed.
