Abstract
252,449. Billinghame, W. E. Nov. 27, 1924. Emulsions, making. - Tar, bitumen, creosote, petroleum, heavy oils, and like materials are emulsified with the use, as emulsifying agent, of a previously-prepared, concentrated emulsion of a small amount of the material. The concentrated emulsion may be diluted with water and then mixed with the material to be emulsified or the reverse order of mixing may be adopted. In preparing the concentrated emulsion, a small amount of the material to be emulsified is mixed with a soap, preferably a resin soap, and a soluble protein, the preferred method comprising admixture of the soap and the material followed by addition of the soluble protein. The final emulsions may be thickened by incorporation of clay. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14391/85, 13151/05, 13586/12, and 244,135.
