Abstract

322,045. Large, T. H. Oct. 9, 1928. Flexible couplings.- An annular or other flexible universal-joint disc for motor-vehicles &c. comprises alternate laminations a of leather, rubberized fabric, &c. and thin sheet-steel or other metal discs b, the whole being clamped by bolts c, which may be used for attachment to the shaft spiders (not shown). The clamping- plates d, d' and the discs a, b are formed with a coacting radial ridge and groove at each attachment point, as shown, in order to improve the grip and distribute the torque load, and these ridges &c. may taper towards the centre. The discs a may be spaced by washers and the discs b slightly waved or curved between the attachment points, in order to allow limited rotary yield within the safe elastic limit of the discs a.
