Abstract
880,560. Vehicle wheel rims. KELSEYHAYES CO. July 22, 1958 [Sept. 4, 1957], No. 23582/58. Class 144 (2). In a wheel comprising a body member and a pair of endless annular rim members encircling the body member, the rim and body members are wedgingly interlocked by rotation of one of the members with respect to the others. In one form, one rim member 3 (Fig. 6) is secured to the body member 1 (Fig. 2) by fasteners 11 with each of a plurality of circumferentially spaced obliquely oriented flanges 16 on the member 3 having a radial line contact with the surface 19 of the body 1. Each of the corresponding flanges 25 on the rim member 4 (Fig. 5) is then inserted between a flange 16 and the surface 19 and the members interwedge on rotation of the rim member 4. The assembly may be secured by a bolt which passes through holes 30, 31 in a pair of flanges 16, 25 and is screwed into the body 1. In another form (Fig. 7), one rim member 47 has a continuous flange 51 placed in contact with the surface 42 of the body 40, and the other rim member 48 has circumferentially separated inclined flanges 56 which fit into corresponding grooves in the surface 42<SP>1</SP> of the body to wedge the rim member 47 between the body and the rim member 48 on rotation of the latter.
