Abstract

920,281. Wheel rims. MANUFACTURERS MACHINE CO. May 13, 1960, No. 16901/60. Class 144 (2). In a clamping device for clamping a rim with a tapered surface portion on a cast truck wheel by clamping means connectable to the truck wheel, the clamping means comprises two members pivotally engaging each other and comprising means preventing the clamping members from moving relatively to each other in a circumferential direction of the rim, one of the members being wedge-shaped for engagement with the tapered rim surface portion. The truck wheel 14 has spokes 15 a flange 16 with an inclined portion 17, supports 18 and 24 secured to the rims 19 and 19a and a spacer ring 26 between the supports and mounted on the flange. The clamping means comprises a wedge portion 28 contacting the inclined surface of the support 24, and a lug portion 30 which has arcuate projections 40 which engage in recesses 38 in the wedge portion in the manner of a ball joint. The lug portion has a radially elongated hole for a stud 34 which screws into or otherwise engages the wheel. The lug portion has a projection 42 contacting a spoke. The wedge portion extends over one or more spokes and has lugs 44 on each side of the spoke co-operating with the projections 40 to prevent movement. For wider spokes the clamping means are correspondingly increased in size and the lug has two holes for two studs.
