Abstract

[Class 80 (i)] The driving power of a belt and pulley system is improved by providing the pulley with a yieldable tractive surface a, Fig. 2, and in forming in such surface one or more circumferential grooves b. These may be connected by transverse grooves c. In Fig. 3, the yieldable material h is preformed and is gripped between a rim e integral with the hub d and a detachable rim f secured by a bolt g. The yieldable material may be leather, rubberized fabric and the like. In Fig. 4, the rubberized fabric is made according to Specification 526,944, is formed with grooves m and is secured by rivets to a band k having fastening means as described in Specification 526,232. The grooves may be V-shaped or rectangular. Specification 470,261 also is referred to.
