Abstract

321,806. French, C. Oct. 31, 1928. Diaphragms.-The conical or dish-shaped diaphragm of a loud-speaker is suspended by one or more spiral springs attached at one end to the diaphragm and at the other end to a fixed part of the instrument. The diaphragm 1 has two springs 4, 5 attached to the diaphragm in a plane substantially through its centre of gravity, the other ends of the springs being attached to the casing. The springs, which may be made of parchment, stiff paper, light metal, &c., are of rectangular cross-section and are bent at the ends as at 6, 7, Fig. 2, so as to give greater axial than radial freedom. The ends 10 are slotted to enable adjustment of tension. If the convolutions run in opposite directions, the springs are arranged to be equi-distant from the plane containing the centre of gravity of the diaphragm.
