Abstract
303,189. Linsell, A. A. Aug. 30, 1927. Loud-speakers; diaphragms. -In a loud-speaker, gramophone, or other acoustic instrument having a diaphragm of large area, the diaphragm is so formed and arranged that part of it constitutes an effective baffle member, which should be at least one-eighth the length of the longest wave to be reproduced, the arrangement being such that both sides of the diaphragm are employed for the production of sound. The second emitting portion 1, Fig. 1, may be conical and attached at its base to the middle of a cylindrical portion 4 serving as a baffle. In modifications, 'the base of the conical part may be attached to either end of the baffle, or it may be flared, or connected by an annulus to the centre or end of the baffle member. In other modifications, two conical members placed apex to apex may be arranged within a cylindrical baffle (Figs. 8, 9 not shown); the cylindrical baffle may be arranged within an aperture in a stationary baffle of known form (Fig. 10, not shown); a reflector may be arranged in the. rear of the diaphragm (Fig. 11, not shown).
