Abstract

Ink - ribbon mechanism.-A device for moistening the ink ribbon of a typewriter or the like comprises a casing containing a moistening-roller and a disengageable distributing-roller, and provided with a pivoted clip arranged to abut on the casing and hold the ribbon in light contact with the distributing- roller. In the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a knurled moistening- roller 23, projecting through a slot in the casing 10, runs in contact with a distributing- roller 17 mounted in a bracket 14 which is secured to a pivot rod 13 and is pressed towards the rolfer 23 by a spring. To disengage the roller 17, the bracket is moved by means of a finger-piece 20, frictional engagement of the finger-piece with a slot in the casing maintaining the roller in disengaged position. A spring-pressed clip 27 for guiding the ribbon is pivoted at 26 to the casing and has lugs 29 which engage the casing at points above path of the ink ribbon. The lugs prevent the clip from gripping the ribbon and also serve as guides. The roller 23 consists of felt and is supported by a hollow perforated core arranged under a filling-hole 11<a>. To prevent moistening of the red strip of a ribbon, the roller 23 may be stepped. The casing is provided with a detachable clip 32 for engaging the spool-housing or other member.
