Abstract

490,191. Ink ribbon mechanism. RADO, A. Dec. 17, 1937, No. 34954. [Class 100 (iv)] A frame supporting duplicating-ribbon mechanism as a unit is pivotally and detachably connected to a typewriter by means of bearings which consist of two pivotally connected parts. In the apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a frame 2 supporting spools 6<1>, 611 for a duplicating-ribbon 7 is provided with open bearings 4 for engaging pivots 1 on the carriage, engagement being maintained by pivoted hooks 5. When the duplicating-ribbon is out of use, the frame can be swung backwards or, on release of the hooks, can be detached. A shield-strip 11 for the duplicating-ribbon is secured at each end to a plate 13 which is formed with curved and straight slots 14, 15 engaging pins on the carriage, and can be raised or depressed by means of a finger-piece 18 to move the shield-strip out of or into position. The duplicating-ribbon is prevented from soiling the margins of the original sheet by means of metal shields 19 secured to arms 20 which are laterally adjustable on a rod 3 on the frame 2. A feed-pawl for the spool 6<11> is carried by a rocking arm in connection with a bell-crank having a pin in the path of the line-spacing lever. The duplicating-ribbon runs in contact with a re-inking pad 22, or a wick dipping into a reservoir.
