Abstract
400,042. Ink-ribbon mechanism. TETTERODE, J. C. VAN, 24, Fazantweg, Apeldoorn, Holland. Jan. 26, 1933, No. 2509. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1932. [Class 100 (iv).] One or more duplicating- ribbons extending along the platen of a typewriter are clamped during the letterspacing movement of the carriage, and receive during return of the carriage a feed-movement corresponding to the length of the previously typed line. In the mechanism, shown in Figs. 1 and 5, a duplicating-ribbon 4 is wound on spools 1, 2 mounted on a plate attached to the carriage 17. The duplicating-ribbon is guided along the platen 18 by means of rollers 6, 7, 8, guides 11, 12, and a clamp 5 consisting of fixed and hinged members 13, 16 having a co-operating groove and projection. The member 13 is moved to clamp the duplicating-ribbon by means of a finger 14 on a paper-bail 15 which is raised on return of the carriage. The spools are rotated by means of a carriage-propelling spring-drum 19 which is connected by a band 9 to the framework and, by means of a lever 10, can be moved into engagement with either spool to reverse the feed. During typing, the duplicating-ribbon is held in tension by the clamp, and on return of the carriage, the paperbail is raised to release the clamp, and the spool 1 or 2 imparts a feed-movement equal to the length of the previously typed line. More than one duplicating-ribbon may be wound on the spools, or additional spools may be provided. A clamp may be arranged at each end of the platen.
