Abstract
319,459. Horstmann, J. H. G. Aug. 9, 1928. Controlling variable-speed gearing.- A control lever C is turned up or down in successive steps by repeated depressions of pedal levers F, G, respectively, the two directions of movement of lever C giving gear changes up or down. The lever C is formed as a segmental wheel with two racks or sets of ratchet teeth c<1>, c<3> in different planes. When pedal F is depressed to the limit of its stroke, a pawl f<3> which it carries engages teeth c<l> and pulls lever C down one step. The pedal F is returned upwards by a spring K, and the depression may be repeated. When pedal G is depressed, a pawl g<3> carried on an extension g<1> of the pedal lever engages teeth c<3> and pushes control lever C up one step, and so on. The pawls f<3>, g<3> are biased towards lever C by springs f<4>, g<4>, and are guided to effect their proper movements by contour surfaces f<6>, g<6> which glide over a fixed guide stud J. A hand lever is shown at E. The invention is applicable' upon motor-vehicles and aircraft.
