Abstract

318,555. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Buechner, G.). Sept. 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus. - gas-tight insulating seal between a conductor and an enclosing metal shell, e.g., between the anode stem 4 of a mercury-vapour rectifier and a shell 6 clamped to the casing 1 surrounding the anode 2, comprises a layer 5 of insulating-material between these parts and a cylindrical member 8 embedded in the insulating-material and attached at its exposed end to the conductor, e.g., by welding. The member 8 is caused to compress the insulating-material into grooves or corrugations formed in its outer surface and the opposing surface of the shell 6. The insulating-material may consist of mica mixed with a vitreous binder. An automatic circulation of cooling-liquid between the interior of the anode stem and a reservoir 10 is established by a pipe 12.
