Rudders.-In ships with totally-immersed propellers, the main rudder a fixed immediately at aft the propeller c within the screw race, carries a relatively small pivoted flap or flaps b which cause a fluid pressure effect on each side of the fixed rudder to produce a lateral thrust. The main rudder and flap may be steam-lined, and the fairway bossing f of the propeller may be extended aft on the fixed rudder.
