316,721. Long, H. H., and Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd. May 24, 1928. Plug couplings and connectors. - A suspending device for electric fittings or apparatus comprises a base member 3, Fig. 1, permanently attached to the ceiling, a drum or cup-shaped member 4 taking the place of the ceiling patera, and masking the base member, to which apparatus to be suspended can be semi-permanently attached, a bayonet-catch 8 provided between these two members beneath the ceiling, and standard plug and socket contact members 6, 12 secured to the base carrier-members respectively, relative motion being allowed between the carrier and plug members. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the base member 2 is similar to a standard conduit-box and is formed with horizontal lugs 8 having upstanding tongues 9. The supporting member 4 has slots engaging the lugs 8, 9. As shown in Figs. 2, 4 and 5, the socket member 6 is attached to a flange 18, Fig. 4, having slots or gaps 19 and lugs 20, 21. Projections 22 carried by the member 4 pass through gaps 19 and on turning rest between lugs 20, 21. In both forms the supporting members may have radial slots 27, Figs. 2 and 5, to which the fittings are detachably bolted. In order that the plugs may be correctly aligned for insertion in the sockets the plug member 12 may be provided with a radial arm 23, Fig. 5, biassed by a spring 24 to engage a stop 25, the correct bayonet slots and lugs being indicated by colouring.
