Abstract

7510. Sturge, W. H. May 19. Spring-drum apparatus for adjustable suspension.-Relates to the spring-drum suspension of electric and other lamps, bird cages, &c., and consists in mounting the spindle of the drum in a casing divided horizontally, the ends of the spindle entering a gap, and engaging a grooved or raised part, in one of the halves. The spring drum 1 is mounted loosely on a spindle 3 carried in the casing 5, 6 provided with bushes 7, 8 for the cable. The ends 4 of the spindle are flattened to engage a circumferential groove 10 in the upper half 5 of the casing, a slot 11 allowing entrance of the spindle to the groove. The upper part of the casing sockets into the lower half and carries projections 12 which are engaged with gaps in the hollow beading 14; and the halves are relatively rotated, so that the projections engage the interior of the beading. In a modification, the ends of the spindle are grooved to engage an internally projecting beading.
