Abstract

The safety socket has a rotating cover (9) screening the holes leading to the live contacts in the base. The cover is prevented from rotating by e.g. three spring-loaded nipples. The positions of the nipples correspond to the relative positions of the plug pins and are accessible to these pins through holes in the cover. The plug pins are first inserted into the cover holes so that they force the nipples inwards out of the holes thereby allowing the cover to rotate. The cover is rotated and the plug pushes farther home so that its pins engage the sockets behind the cover. The holes in the socket and those leading to the socket contacts are out of alignment.
