Abstract

748,380. Supporting lanterns. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MOUNDSON, M. H. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oet. 12, 1953], No. 28058/53. Class 75(3). In a levelling device for positioning a lantern 11 relative to a support (not shown), comprising a cup 1, an insert 2 within the cup having a portion 12 flaring towards the base of the cup and terminating in a circular annulus 13, four screws 8 spaced at 90 degree intervals around the cup and projecting therethrough into ongageilient with the flaring portion 12 of the insert to hold the circular annulus 13 in abutment with the inner surface of the cup and means for attaching the cup or the insert to the lantern 11 or the support the flaring portion 12 includes four flat surfaces 14 which are equally inclined to the axis of the insert and are so arranged that a plane through the insert at right angles to its. axis cuts the surfaces in two perpendicular pairs of parallel straight lines. The flaring portion 12 of the insert shown is formed by eight flat surfaces 14 so arranged that a section at right angles to the axis of the insert is a regular octagon. The cup has a screwed socket 4 for engaging with a spigot on the support and the insert has a screwed spigot 10. engaging with the lantern.
