Movable-abutment type; weight of moving parts, reducing.-The rotors of a rotary compressor of the internally meshing gear type and more particularly of the type having rotors with n and n + 1 lobes run with clearance between themselves and also between the casing periphery and end walls. The peripheral clearance of the rotor and casing, i, j, between the discharge port and inlet port is less than that, k, o, between the inlet port and discharge-port. The rotors 1, 2 are connected by gear wheels. The minimum radius of curvature of the lobes is arranged to be greater than two or three times the eccentricity of the rotors; the lobes of the outer rotor are circular arcs c, d. The inner rotor may be hollow with the lobes having a mass distribution such that the centrifugal action causes no bending moment in the walls B, C, D, F, 0 thereof, Fig. 4. Lead masses m are applied to the outer rotor pockets for preventing bending moments in bands encircling that rotor.
